"Hey Jude" is a song by the English rock band The Beatles that was recorded in 1968. Originally titled "Hey Jules", the ballad was written by Paul McCartneyand credited to Lennon/McCartneyto comfort John Lennon's son Julian during his parents' divorce. "Hey Jude" begins with a verse-bridge structure based around McCartney's vocal performance and piano accompaniment; further details are added as the song progresses to distinguish sections. After the fourth verse, the song shifts to a fade-out coda that lasts for more than four minutes. "Hey Jude" was released in August 1968 as the first single from The Beatles' record label Apple Records. Over seven minutes in length, "Hey Jude" was at the time the longest single ever to top the British charts. John Winston Ono Lennon; MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940 8 December 1980) was an English rock musician; singer; songwriter; artist; and peace activist who gained worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles. As a member of the group; Lennon was one of the lead vocalists and co-wrote the majority of the band-s songs with bassist Paul McCartney.Lennon had two sons: Julian Lennon; with his first wife Cynthia Lennon; and Sean Ono Lennon; with his second wife; avant-garde artist Yoko Ono. After a self-imposed retirement from 1976 to 1980; Lennon reemerged with a comeback album; but was murdered one month later in New York City on 8 December 1980.
