"This I Promise You" is a song by *NSYNC, released as the third single (the fourth in some countries) from their second album, No Strings Attached, in 2000. The song was composed by pop singer Richard Marx, who would later record song himself for the Japanese release of his Days In Avalon album. The song is a ballad, with the lead vocals being sung by JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake. "This I Promise You" was the group's fifth top 10 single in the US, reaching #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the autumn of 2000. In addition, the song spent 13 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart, the group's first song to do so. The single was less successful internationally, reaching #21 on the UK Singles Chart and failing to make the top 20 in Australia. He had a string of highly successful hit singles in the late 1980s and 1990s; including "Endless Summer Nights"; "Right Here Waiting"; "Now and Forever"; and "Hazard". Although most of his major hit songs were slow ballads like these; many of his songs had a classic rock style; such as "Don't Mean Nothing;" "Should've Known Better;" "Satisfied;" and "Too Late To Say Goodbye". Marx placed himself in the record books by being the first solo artist to have his first seven singles hit the Top 5 on the US charts.
