Metallica is an American heavy metal band that formed in 1981 in Los Angeles; California. Founded when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a Los Angeles newspaper; Metallicas original line-up consisted of Ulrich; rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield; lead guitarist Dave Mustaine; and bassist Ron McGovney.McGovney and Mustaine were later ejected from the band; in favor of Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett; respectively. The ejection of Mustaine resulted in a feud between him and Metallica. In September 1986; Metallicas tour bus skidded out of control and flipped; which resulted in Burton being crushed under the bus and killed. Jason Newsted replaced him less than two months later. "Fade to Black" is a song by thrash metal band Metallica from their second album, Ride the Lightning (1984). It was the first musical ballad released by the band, and is considered to be the precursor to "One" and "The Day That Never Comes" due to strong similarity in sound, structure, and subject matter. It was ranked as having the 24th best guitar solo ever by Guitar World magazine readers. It is one of Metallica's most famous songs.
