About the Song
"Secret Agent Man" is a song written by Steve Barri and P.F. Sloan. The song evokes secret agents both musically (making use of a memorable guitar riff written by Chuck Day and inspired by Monty Norman's James Bond theme) and through its lyrics (which describe the dangerous life of a secret agent). The most famous recording of the song was made by Johnny Rivers for the opening titles of the American broadcast of the British spy series Danger Man, which aired in the US as Secret Agent from 1964 to 1966. About the Artist
Steve Barri (born Steven Barry Lipkin in Brooklyn, New York on February 23, 1942) is an American songwriter and record producer. Early in his career Barri was a staff writer with Dunhill Records. He frequently collaborated with P.F. Sloan, and the partners were responsible for the success of The Grass Roots & the Bubblegum Pop group Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods. Barri also wrote and/or produced many other hit songs in the 1960s and 1970s, including "Eve of Destruction" recorded by Barry McGuire, "You Baby" by The Turtles, and "Secret Agent Man" (the theme from the TV series Secret Agent) by Johnny Rivers. After Dunhill was acquired by ABC Records, Barri stayed on as head of Artists & Repertory (A&R) where he focused on signing and producing new artists. ABC Records was dissolved in 1977 and Barri was hired as A&R head at Warner Bros. Records, where he produced the #1 1977 single "Undercover Angel" by Alan O'Day, as well as O'Day's followup single "Skinny Girls," which went to #1 in Australia. Barri moved again to Motown Records in 1982. In 1998 Barri joined Gold Circle Entertainment / Samson Records as a producer, and was promoted to senior vice.

It was only in the 1950s when musicians started to bring music sheets to bands so they could play, allowing more people to hear their compositions. Simply, a music sheet is musical composition in printed form. It is composed of unbound sheets of paper where a musical notation of a song is printed. Many associate it with popular music. However, musicians say popular songs are not the only ones written down on paper. Many classical songs were published in music sheets and classical musicians performed even unfamiliar songs with these printed compositions.  (More...)
