The Mamas & the Papas (credited as The Mama's and the Papa's on the debut album cover) were a vocal group of the 1960s. The group recorded and performed from 1965 to 1968 with a short reunion in 1971, releasing five albums and ten hit singles. They have sold nearly 40 million records worldwide. "Dream a Little Dream of Me" is a song, usually credited to Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt. The lyrics were written by Gus Kahn. It was recorded by Wayne King and his Orchestra with vocal by Ernie Birchill on February 18, 1931 and released by Victor Records as catalogue number 22643. It was a top 20 hit for Frankie Laine in 1950. Later notably sung by Doris Day (who, in 1957, was the first singer to record it at the slow tempo in which it had been written), Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.
