The Go-Gos are an all-female American pop band formed in 1978. They made rock history as the first all-woman band that both wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to top the Billboard album charts.
The Go-Go's rose to fame in the early 1980s. Their debut album, Beauty and the Beat, is considered one of the "cornerstone albums of new wave" (Allmusic), breaking barriers and paving the way for a host of other new American acts. In the beginning, they played primarily a pop-inflected form of the emerging punk sound, and later defined themselves with the distinct sound of 1980s rock. The Go-Gos had five U.S. Top 40 hits. Musical influences include the Ramones, Shangri-Las, Buzzcocks, Beatles, Beach Boys, and Blondie. "Head over Heels" is a 1984 single, released by the all-female pop rock/new wave band The Go-Go's, written by Charlotte Caffey and Kathy Valentine. The song was released as the first single from their third album, Talk Show, and was the most successful of the album's three singles, peaking at #11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
The song appeared in the Gary Winick 2004 movie 13 Going on 30, starring Jennifer Garner. The Go-Gos.
