Alan Silvestri (b. March 26; 1950; New York City) is an acclaimed American Academy Award nominated film score composer. He studied film scoring at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Silvestri is best known for his numerous collaborations with director Robert Zemeckis; having scored Romancing the Stone (1984); the Back to the Future trilogy (1985; 1989; 1990); Forrest Gump (1994); Contact (1997); Cast Away (2000) and The Polar Express (2004). Forrest Gump is a 1994 comedy-drama film based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The film was a huge commercial success, earning US$677 million worldwide during its theatrical run making it the top grossing film in North America released that year.
