"All I Want for Christmas Is You" is a pop song by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey. It is the second track from her fourth studio album, Merry Christmas. It was released by Columbia Records on November 1, 1994 as the album's lead single. The song was written by Carey and Walter Afanasieff, both of whom were also the producers. An uptempo love song, the instrumentation includes bell chimes and heavy back-up vocals. The song's lyrics declare that the singer does not care about Christmas presents or lights; all she wants for Christmas is to spend time with her lover.
The song's music video was filmed during the 1993 Christmas season. It displays scenes of Carey decorating a Christmas tree, spending time in the snow, and performing other festive activities. Carey sang the song live during the Japanese leg of her Daydream World Tour (1996), Butterfly World Tour (1998) and Charmbracelet World.
