About the Song
"Ain't Nobody" is a 1983 hit single by Rufus along with Chaka Khan and released as a studio bonus track on the band's live album Stompin' at the Savoy. It reached number one on the U.S. R&B chart and twenty-two on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. [1]. It has become one of Khan's best-known and most-played songs. Today it is regarded as one of the essential soul vocal recordings, and enjoys the status of being a "legendary record".[citation needed] Rufus keyboardist David "Hawk" Wolinski wrote the song around an unusual, ethereal repeating synthesizer loop backed by a LinnDrum drum machine. Legendary producer Quincy Jones (who had previously worked with Rufus) wanted Wolinski to give "Ain't Nobody" to Michael Jackson for the album that would become the blockbuster, Thriller, but Wolinski had already promised it to producer Russ Titelman, who ultimately had the band record it as a vocal.    Download this sheet!
About the Artist
David J. "Hawk" Wolinski is an American keyboardist, songwriter and record producer probably best known for his work with the funk band Rufus and their lead singer Chaka Khan. Wolinski grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and in the late 1960s was a member of the bands Shadows of Knight and Bangor Flying Circus. When the latter band broke up he helped form the band Madura, which was produced by fellow Chicagoan James William Guercio. Guercio used Madura in his 1973 film Electra Glide in Blue; Wolinksi also had a small acting role. In the late 1970s Wolinski joined Rufus as a keyboardist and songwriter. He co-wrote their songs "Hollywood," "Street Player" (later covered by Chicago), and "Everlasting Love" (not to be confused with the Robert Knight hit with the same title). He also wrote lead singer Chaka Khan's 1983 hit single "Ain't Nobody," which reached #1 on the US R&B chart. Wolinski has worked with numerous other artists as musician, songwriter or producer, including The Bee Gees, Glenn Frey, Michael Jackson, Danny Seraphine, Beverley Knight, Stephanie Mills, and Minnie Riperton. Music sheets - what is all about? Back in the 19th century, songs in the United States were popularized by musicians through music sheets. It was only in the 1950s when musicians started to bring music sheets to bands so they could play, allowing more people to hear their compositions. Simply, a music sheet is musical composition in printed form. It is composed of unbound sheets of paper where a musical notation of a song is printed. Many associate it with popular music. However, musicians say popular songs are not the only ones written down on paper. Many classical songs were published in music sheets and classical musicians performed even unfamiliar songs with these printed compositions.  (More...)
